![]() | Will Sarah Palin factor in US politics Will Sarah Palin be a factor in 2010? Will Sarah Palin be a factor in 2010? | The 2012 Presidential Election Sarah Palin has joined FOX News and will be another voice on the media right, joining Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Huckabee. She won't get elected to anything herself, but her mouth might help right-wingers win in GOP primaries. But now she is making money. With her deal at Fox, her paid speeches, her book deal --she is racking in the dollars. |

![]() | GOP Concern Growing Over Selection of Palin The website Politico reports a growing number of Republicans are expressing concern about John McCain’s running mate Sarah Palin’s performance on the campaign trail and her understanding of key issues. National Review columnist Kathleen Parker has called on Palin to step aside. Parker recently wrote, “Quick study or not, she doesn’t know enough about economics and foreign policy to make Americans comfortable with a President Palin should conditions warrant her promotion.” Criticism of Palin intensified last week after her interview with Katie Couric on CBS. During the interview Couric asked Palin about the proposed $700 billion bailout of Wall Street. Sarah Palin: “But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, helping the—oh, it’s got to be all about job creation, too, shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So, healthcare reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans. And trade, we have—we’ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, scary thing, but one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today. We’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.” On Monday, Palin returned for another interview with Katie Couric, this time with John McCain. Couric questioned McCain about Palin’s interaction with a voter in Philadelphia on Saturday when she contradicted McCain’s stated position on Pakistan by saying that US troops should absolutely go into Pakistan if that’s what needed to stop the terrorists from coming into Afghanistan. Katie Couric: “Is that something you shouldn’t say out loud, Sen. McCain?” John McCain: “Of course, not. But, look, I understand this day and age, ‘gotcha’ journalism. Is that a pizza place? In a conversation with someone who you didn’t hear the question very well, you don’t know the context of the conversation, grab a phrase. Governor Palin and I agree that you don’t announce that you’re going to attack another country.” Couric: “Are you sorry you said it?” McCain: “And the fact”— Couric: “Governor?” McCain: “Wait a minute. Before you say, ‘is she sorry she said it,’ this was a ‘gotcha’ sound bite that—well, she was in a conversation”— Couric: “It wasn’t a ‘gotcha.’ She was talking to a voter.” ( Let Be Real Here She Was A Joke Then And Still Is ( NOWWW ) Democracy Now.org

![]() | Re: Will Sarah Palin factor in US politics YuhannaEl, Here is the problem with your assessment: Republican Party policies only benefit a minority of Americans, the ones with money and businesses owners. After the Great Depression, the Republicans were denied control of Congress for 50 years. In order to gain control they needed to convince enough of the middle class and poor that their policies would benefit them. From the 50s to the 80s they pushed this trickle down theory of economics, stated in several different ways. The public just didn't buy it in the aftermath of the Depression. By the 90s, fewer people from the depression era were still here to remember, and economic collapse seemed to be impossible. The Republicans, led somewhat by Newt Gingrich, changed their strategy and became the "Family Values" party. This really caught on with the fundamentalists, who like telling everybody else what their morals should be. Also, during the 90s, the right wing radio jocks began to pick up large audiences, which the party soon learned to coordinate along with churches. Conservative politics has now been transformed into a moral crusade, moving their primary objective into the limelight. The Republicans didn't get control of Congress because of their economic policies, they won because of the Crusade. My point is this...Never expect people to act in a rational manner when they are on a crusade. Sarah Palin catered to the crusade and became a focal point for their cause. She doesn't have to be smart, educated or know anything about government, all she has to say is "damn the liberals" and "God bless America," and she does it like a pit bull with lipstick. She has the ability and opportunity to influence millions of Americans, she has and she will. |

![]() | Re: Will Sarah Palin factor in US politics Sarah Palin Linked to Sen. Stevens 527 Meanwhile, a series of new revelations about McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, has raised questions about how well the McCain campaign vetted the Alaskan governor. The Washington Post revealed that Palin once ran a 527 group for Republican Senator Ted Stevens designed to raise unlimited funds from corporate donors. Stevens was recently indicted on corruption charges. Palin served as a director of Stevens’ 527 from 2003 and 2005. It was also announced that a private lawyer had recently been hired to represent Palin in a state investigation into her firing of the state’s public safety commissioner. And Palin disclosed on Monday that her unmarried seventeen-year-old daughter was five months pregnant. McCain aides said the announcement about the pregnancy of Palin’s daughter, Bristol, was aimed at rebutting internet rumors that Palin’s own youngest son, born in April, was actually the daughter’s. Both McCain and Palin have opposed funding sexual education programs in schools. In 2006, McCain voted against a Senate Democratic proposal to send $100 million to communities for teen-pregnancy prevention programs that would have included sex education about contraceptives. If you read my other posts here last night, you would see that I am definitely not conservative. If you had gone to my profile you would have found a "home page" that already espouses my own values. If you had done your home work, you would be feeling foolish right now. I see that you are more reactionary than thoughtful. The only thing I disagree with is your statement that Palin will not be influential. And I not only gave you the reason I disagree, but the history of why I have that opinion. Instead of debating that issue, that you brought up, you resort to dribble and unwarranted accusations. Would you like to start again and tell me why you think all of the thousands of people who go to see her at her book signings and rallies are not being influenced by her? | |

![]() | Re: Will Sarah Palin factor in US politics You put too much emphasis on IQ. Her IQ has nothing to do with her popularity and influence. It doesn't take an IQ to read bible verses and slam liberals. If you can't see that invoking god and insulting liberals gets votes and influence in the Religious Right, you aren't paying attention. These people aren't looking to leaders with intelligence, they're looking for leaders who will tell them that they're going to kill queers, save babies and bury the Communists.
